Install and open Docker Desktop for Mac. Docker handles emulation of the Intel image on Apple Silicon. Docker Desktop does not provide Mac GPU access to this container, so Norri uses the CPU when media needs transcoding.
Prefer a direct command? Use Docker run instead.
Create file
Create a folder named norri. In it, create a plain-text file named compose.yaml and paste the complete configuration below. If using TextEdit, choose Format → Make Plain Text first and save without a .txt extension. You can also download this file and save it as compose.yaml.

Customize
- Media folders: replace the
/Users/YOUR_NAME/...paths with your existing folders. External drives use/Volumes/DRIVE/FOLDER. Change only the part before:/media/and keep:ro. Delete media lines you do not need. - File access: open Terminal and run
id -uandid -g. SetPUIDto the first result andPGIDto the second. - Docker access: allow Docker Desktop to access those folders if prompted. Keep the two Norri data volumes and the other settings as shown.
Save the file.
Start server
Open Terminal, type cd followed by a space, drag your norri folder into the window, and press Return. Then run:
docker compose up -d
Docker downloads Norri and starts it. The first start may take a few minutes.
Open setup
Open http://localhost:11423. Follow the setup wizard, create your account, and add your libraries using /media/Movies, /media/TVShows, or /media/Music for the folders you kept.
From another device, use http://YOUR_MAC_IP:11423. The Apple apps have separate TestFlight instructions.
Ask in Discord if you need help. See the Docker reference for updates and backups.
