First Steps

After installing Norri, follow these steps to get your media server up and running.

Create Your Admin Account

Open http://your-server-address:11423 from your home network, using your chosen port if you changed the default.

When you first access a new server, the setup wizard asks you to claim it and create an administrator account. This account has full access to settings and media.

Tip

Use a strong, unique password for your admin account, especially if you plan to enable remote access.

Confirm your defaults

Choose the language used for titles and descriptions and the country used for age ratings. The wizard starts with values based on the browser’s locale.

Add your media libraries

Add libraries in the setup wizard, or go to Settings → Libraries and click Add Library later.

For each library, you’ll need to:

  1. Choose Movies, TV Shows, or Music.
  2. Give the library a name.
  3. Select the readable folder for this library below /media.
  4. Save the library and start its initial scan.

For media stored on a NAS, mount the share on the Docker host and expose it below /media in the container. Norri does not accept SMB URLs or network credentials.

Check the first scan

The main interface opens while scanning continues. Open Settings → Libraries to check each library’s progress and any scan errors. Reloading the page does not restart a scan. If a library remains empty, confirm that the container can read the selected folder and that the path is below /media.

Configure users

If you’re sharing Norri with family members, create user accounts for each person:

  1. Go to Settings → Users
  2. Click Add User
  3. Enter their account details and choose whether they need administrator access

Start watching

Open the server address in a supported browser on your home network. Native apps use separate downloads and release schedules. See Client apps.
