Setting Up Your Server

After installing Norri, open http://your-server-address:11423 from your home network. Replace the address with your server’s IP address or hostname, and use your chosen host port if you changed Docker’s mapping. The same address opens setup, administration, and the web app.

The setup wizard appears until setup is complete. You do not need a Norri cloud account, email verification, or a setup code.

Claim This Server

Check the server address shown on the welcome screen, then continue.

Initial setup is restricted to the local network. Connect directly to the server’s local address to claim it; set up remote access afterwards.

Create the Administrator

Choose a username of at least three characters and a password of at least eight characters. Confirm the password before continuing. No email address is required.

This account manages libraries, users, and server settings. Use a strong, unique password.

If you return to an unfinished setup after creating this account, sign in as that administrator to continue.

Collection Defaults

Choose the language used for titles and descriptions and the country used for age ratings. The wizard starts with values based on your browser’s locale.

New libraries use online metadata and any supported local NFO files by default. You can change each library’s NFO settings later.

Add Libraries

For each library:

  1. Choose Movies, TV Shows, or Music.
  2. Give it a name.
  3. Click Choose server folder, choose one readable folder, and click Select folder.

In Docker, select paths below /media. Mount NAS shares on the Docker host first, then expose them to the container. A host path such as /mnt/nas/media/movies may appear inside Norri as /media/movies; the setup wizard uses the container’s path. Norri checks that the selected folders can be read.

Click Add library for each additional source folder, including another library of the same media type. Each library uses one source folder.

You can also select Set up libraries later and add them later in Settings → Libraries.

See Adding Media Libraries and Network Shares for folder setup.

Review and Start

Check the administrator, collection defaults, and libraries. Select Start Norri to finish setup and queue the first library scans.

Scanning

Enter Norri while scanning continues. Titles, artwork, and details appear as the scans progress. Open Settings → Libraries to check progress and any errors; reloading the page does not restart a scan.

If a library stays empty, check the folder mapping and read permissions. Use Library Health to review uncertain movie matches or unavailable items.

Next Steps

  • If you changed Docker’s host port, confirm it in Settings → General → Network → Host port. See Server Configuration.
  • First Steps covers adding users and starting playback.
  • Remote Access explains access from outside your home network.
