Norri is a self-hosted server for your movie, TV, and music libraries, with a web app and native Apple apps.

Why we built this

We love media servers. We've used Plex, Emby, and others for years. But we kept hitting the same frustrations: cloud dependencies, sluggish performance with large libraries, poor Apple TV experiences, and privacy concerns.

We are building Norri from scratch for large personal libraries, with local control, reliable playback, and native apps for the devices people already use.

Our principles

Your data stays yours. Your library database, accounts, and playback history are stored on your server. No Norri cloud account is required, and Norri does not automatically upload usage analytics or crash reports.
Designed for large libraries. PostgreSQL provides indexed searches and concurrent access to library metadata, accounts, and playback history.
Native apps. Interfaces and controls built for Apple TV, iPhone, and iPad.
Server features. All server features are included, with no premium tier.

How we make money

The Norri server and web app are free, with all server features included, forever. Hardware transcoding, remote access, and additional users do not require a paid tier or subscription.

The available Apple apps are also free during Public Beta. We may charge for some native apps in the future to help fund their development and support. No future prices or purchase arrangements have been announced.

Native apps have ongoing costs: app store fees, development for each platform, updates, and support. The web app will remain free for people who prefer to browse and play through their browser.

Current status
